Rumor has it Cowen's Bonefish Scampi was the result of experienced guides talking about flies that catch big, finicky bonefish. They wanted a fly that had a longer wing tied with a material that moved and breathed when retrieved. Cowen took this information to the vise, using rabbit for the body material and a translucent polar fiber wing to keep the fly subtle.
